At DELTA, we support Good Nutrition and always highlight its many benefits.
At DELTA, we create value for the entire ecosystem in which we operate. By purchasing goods and services from a wide spectrum of local suppliers, we support Greece’s economy and help to increase employment in the areas of primary production, transportation, processing and retail trade.
In 2022, 90% of our suppliers were domestic, representing 85% of the company’s total expenses.
Our dedication to the Greek market and our commitment to our model of sustainable development have very tangible results in the country’s GDP, public revenue, and employment.
We create added value for Greek society.
Our contribution to the national economy, public revenue, and employment has been analysed in a comprehensive socioeconomic impact study which we completed for the year 2022.
According to the study, DELTA:
- Contributed €103 million to the country’s GDP
- Contributed €14.5 million to the National Public Revenue
- Contributed to the creation of 3,168 jobs
This means that every €1 of added value created by DELTA, creates €1.42 for the national economy.
Also, every new direct job position at DELTA, creates two jobs for the national economy. You can read the study in its entirety εδώ.
We support the sustainability of Greek animal farming.
The vast majority of the animal farms we collaborate with are family-owned businesses, with many years of experience in milk production.
In order to combine this experience with our principles on sustainable development, in 2012 we designed and implemented the GAIA Action Plan, in collaboration with academic and scientific institutions.
The Plan’s main goal is to bridge the gap between applied research and production process on three levels.
1. Animal nutrition
In collaboration with the Agricultural University of Athens and ELGO Demeter, we commenced experimental cultivations in order to determine the possibility of producing high quality animal feed which will substitute imported soya. Our goal is to ensure a balance nutrition for livestock, improve the country’s self-sufficiency in animal feed and optimize the use of Greek land with the lowest possible environmental impact.
Additionally, through our subsidiary EUROTROFES, we promote the use of Agolin, a mix of natural aromatic substances which are added to animal feed and help to reduce methane emission from cows by 10%.
2. Farm consultation
In collaboration with universities, we provide personal consulting services to producers. This ensures that the animals receive a balanced nutrition, guarantees the quality of the milk produced and reduces production costs.
Since 2023, we’ve been expanding our consultation to include issues such as sustainable development, based on a new evaluation framework for farmers, which combines criteria on milk quality and quantity with principles on well-being, biosecurity and carbon footprint measurement.
3. Farmer Education and Scholarships
Through seminars and meetings that we organise throughout the country, we keep farmers updated on the latest scientific data and techniques.
We also offer scholarships to new farmers who are at the very beginning of their professional path. These include farm unit management techniques and are part of the American Farm School’s education programmes.
Finally, we actively support contract farming, which contributes to a socially and environmentally sustainable future for the primary sector.
We support our employees on all levels
In May of this year, we received the Great Place to Work® certification for the first time in our history.
This certification is based on a direct, anonymous and confidential evaluation performed by our personnel, in relation to their experience at their workplace, on the following parametres:
- Management reliability
- Respect towards employees
- Sense of fairness across the workplace
- Employee sense of pride and camaraderie in the workplace.
According to the research findings:
- 89% of the employees feel that the company’s vision on good nutrition coincides with their values.
- 84% feel that their work has a purpose and isn’t just a job.
- 92% says that DELTA treats all employees equally, irrespective of their nationality and sexual preference.
